WAR SHEPHERD RETURN TO BEACH ROAD
Back in March, War Shepherd brought melodic death metal to The Dead Famous. This December they’re coming back to headline, and it’s worth being there from the first chord. The Phoenix Proposal open with blues and soul, Twisted In A Layby turn a cigar box guitar loose, and Collapse The Void bring Newport metalcore to the floor.

THE LINE-UP
WAR SHEPHERD
MELODIC DEATH METAL • PLYMOUTH
War Shepherd have smashed The Dead Famous before. When you Listen to “Threads of Fate” you’ll hear why we wanted them back.
The Plymouth five-piece play death metal at thrash speed, with twin guitars that give you a melody to hang on to even when the drums are flying.
Their 2026 EP Shattered Thrones Part 1: The Red Pages is a good place to start before they headline Rotten Roots in December.
COLLAPSE THE VOID
METALCORE • NEWPORT
If the bit you wait for is the moment a fast riff gives way to a half-time stomp, make room for Collapse The Void. The Newport five-piece count Bury Tomorrow and August Burns Red among their influences, and they share those bands’ ear for a guitar line that sticks.
They’re bringing that sound from South Wales to Beach Road. Give their single “Vendetta” a spin on the way down.
We cant wait to welcome these boys back again!
TWISTED IN A LAYBY
CIGAR BOX PUNK • NORTH DEVON
That box in Connor Flello’s hands really is his guitar. The North Devon duo form Twisted In A Layby. The songs are short, the choruses are easy to yell back and the pair leave just enough space between them to take the mick out of themselves.
They’ve put that setup through its paces at Exeter Phoenix and Worcester Music Festival. You’ll recognise the cigar box the second they plug it in. This is high energy just as Rotten Roots is known for!
THE PHOENIX PROPOSAL
BLUES, ROCK AND SOUL
The Phoenix Proposal sum themselves up in four words on their Facebook page. “We play the gigs.” This summer one of those gigs was Kingston Fun Day in South Devon, where they brought blues, rock and soul to the festival marquee.
In Newquay they get the first word. Come down for the opening set and catch the bluesier end of a bill that finishes deep in melodic death metal.
SEE YOU AT THE DEAD FAMOUS
Friday 4 December 2026. Doors at 8pm. The Phoenix Proposal kick things off at 8:30pm.
